Practise the 7 times table

Three practice questions first, then all twelve facts in a random order. Each one has six seconds and a three-second pause before the next, the same pace as the multiplication tables check in Year 4. Type the answer or tap the keypad.

Patterns that help

The last digits of the first ten answers use every digit once: 7, 4, 1, 8, 5, 2, 9, 6, 3, 0. There is no quick digit trick, so the tricky facts need practice.

The facts that trip children up: 7 × 6 = 42, 7 × 7 = 49, 7 × 8 = 56 and 7 × 12 = 84.

If a fact goes missing: Split 7 into 5 and 2. 7 × 8 is 5 × 8 plus 2 × 8, which is 40 + 16 = 56. Or remember 5, 6, 7, 8: 56 = 7 × 8.

The 7 times table is one of the five (6, 7, 8, 9 and 12) that the multiplication tables check gives more weight to, so it is worth extra practice before June of Year 4.
